My Wellness & Recovery Haus Experience

The moment you step into Wellness & Recovery Haus, all your senses are filled with a serene “aahhhh.”

You walk in slowly, absorbing the scents of essential oils and the calming ambiance of the space. A soothing tea awaits along the back wall, and beautiful sea-inspired artwork invites you to relax. Luxurious is the word that comes to mind. Friendly staff at the counter welcome you warmly, eager for you to enjoy your experience fully.

If there's a short wait, pour yourself a cup of tea and settle into the cozy lounge area. Choose an intention card and let it guide your thoughts—a touch I truly enjoy. Each card prompts reflection on a particular value and how it resonates with your life, helping you begin your journey toward deep relaxation.

Next, you're guided to your private room, with clear instructions for the experience that awaits you. The float pod offers a highly customizable experience—close the lid or leave it open, set your preferred light color, choose your music, and decide how long you’d like to float. As someone who is slightly claustrophobic, I was surprised at how comfortable I felt with the lid down, having an entirely immersive experience that varied each time.

On my second visit, I knew what to expect, and this allowed me to sink deeper into relaxation. I drifted into a semi-conscious state with vivid visuals I couldn’t recall afterward. My body, usually in overdrive, felt weightless, and I was able to observe my thoughts without attachment, slipping into profound relaxation. I felt a release in my muscles, and afterward, they felt loose and light. I became acutely aware of my body’s needs, recognizing where I’d been holding tension and learning to let go.

This is the beauty of Wellness & Recovery Haus—your perspective begins to shift the moment you walk in.

Benefits of Floating

I often think of clients who initially resist deep breathing or mindfulness. Many later come to love it, practicing it regularly and finding a deep connection to themselves. Floating offers an hour of intentional breath focus, allowing the mind to slow down. With a single-point focus, you gain clarity and perspective, stepping outside the habitual patterns of tension. Floating is a beautiful tool for breaking automatic responses and routines.

Think of activities like riding a bike or driving. Initially, each step was conscious; now, it’s second nature. Floating allows similar detachment from ingrained habits, offering a new vantage point. By immersing yourself in the float, you can withdraw from daily sensory input and experience something completely different, with deep relaxation taking practice. Each time, I found myself refocusing on my breath to settle my thoughts, letting go of that nagging habit of checking the time or worrying. For many, sensory deprivation can be a unique challenge, but it’s worthwhile—and something everyone can benefit from.

Some of my friends have even convinced their partners to try floating, and all have enjoyed it. Floating and sensory deprivation are widely researched and can help with:

  • Sleep: Many report having a wonderful night’s sleep after floating, with benefits lasting for days.
  • Stress Relief: Floating can help alleviate stress by breaking the body’s associations with stress.
  • Anxiety Reduction: (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27016217)
  • Pain Relief: Floating can trigger a relaxation response, similar to mindfulness practices, that reduces pain and rewires the brain’s responses to chronic pain.
  • Magnesium Absorption: Magnesium, essential for over 300 biochemical reactions, is naturally absorbed through the skin during floating, supporting muscle and nerve function, immune health, and blood glucose regulation. (https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/002423.htm)

Floating also fosters mindfulness and acceptance, enabling shifts in perspective through increased self-awareness. True change happens when we become fully aware of our inner state, influencing how we interpret and interact with the world.

Wellness & Recovery Haus offers a thoughtful, personalised experience that I’ll return to and recommend to family, friends, and clients. Give it a try—you’re guaranteed to enjoy it!
